1.0 stars Not worth the read at all, 2010-03-20;   By: Leafstream(Im in a place)
I will first start by saying that I hated Twilight. I only read New Moon because I didnt want to just abandon the series, and I was really hoping it would get better as things went along. I was awfully wrong.

This book is amazingly bad. Why?

Bella: I HATE Bella. She is the worst main character in existence, and no way she is a 'heroine' or a role model, what kind of a role model tries to commit suicide because her leech boyfriend leaves her? That sounds childish, but I am trying to be realistic. Bella is snobby, selfish, vain, stupid, and a bit of a baby. She has devoted her life and soul to her sparkly vampire boyfriend. She is wants to become a vampire, which means she is willing to walk out on her family, friends, and mortality to be with someone she has hardly known for two months. When Edward leaves her to protect her, she completely dies inside. Scrambling to find someone to fill in Edward's position as a boytoy, she chooses Jacob. It is clear Jacob likes her, and they start to do everything together. She notices she can remember Edward more clearly if she does dangerous things, and tries to commit suicide. Jacob saves her, and things start to heat up between them. Then, when she has a chance to go back to her Edward, she stomps on Jacob's feelings and heart, and she leaves him. Jacob is completely broken up, and Bella doesnt care. I hate her.

Edward: I despise him as well. Truthfully, the only ones to like is the wolf pack. Edward is irritable, vain, and I am sort of iffy about his sexuality. What kind of hot dangerous, mysterious, bad boy vampire wears khaki pants, and white sweaters? At least he and Bella deserve each other. I dont imagine Robert Pattinson when I come up with scenes in my head, I see a smug, stupid, vampire.

Yea, I could rant on and on about how DISGUSTINGLY AWFUL this book was, but I wont. See ya.

Did you know you can't actually see a new moon?

"In astronomical terminology, the phrase new moon is the lunar phase that occurs when the Moon, in its monthly orbital motion around Earth, lies between Earth and the Sun, and is therefore in conjunction with the Sun as seen from Earth. At this time, the dark (unilluminated) portion of the Moon faces almost directly toward Earth, so that the MOON IS NOT VISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE."

Now look at the book.

See something wrong?

THE BOOK IS NOW DIAMONDS.

Wait no. That's not a new moon on the front at all. Because you can see it.

This problem exists on every last piece of art related to this....thing. I don't want to use the term book because that applies that it could be considered literature.

As if the images didn't make me want to scream until the book catches on fire as is.
As if the screaming fan girls didn't eat away my hope in society...bite by bite...

Stake me.

The Twilight Saga (all 4 books) are the best books I ever read. I have never had books keep me attention so fully. I ended up reading the whole series in a matter of 3 weeks. I read every chance I got. I would highly recommend these books to any female.

Well, love it or hate it I have to say that New Moon is an improvement on Twilight.

(before I continue its probably best to say that I am not the target audience for this saga - adult male fan of earlier vampire stories)

In case you've been living under a rock, or perhaps are only generally familar with the plot of the Twilight saga, New Moon begins with the sundering of Edward and Bella, and follows Bella as she 'deals' with the break-up.

The intial section of the book isn't too bad. We see Jacob as he goes through the process of becoming a werewolf, and learn about the werewolf mythology of the story. Tension is created by the possibility that the werewolves are killing people, and the appearance of some evil vamps from Twilight.

Once Edward appears in the story things get a bit slow and stupid. (APOLOGIES FOR SPOILERS) Edward decides to commit suicide after a rather ridiculous misunderstanding were he asks where Bella's father is and assumes the funeral he is attending is Bella's. We are then greeting with far too many pages of Bella racing across the world in what feels like an entirely unauthentic Itality and a slightly campy confrontation with the suspense filled Volturi.

This is probably just me, but I also find Bella's negotiations with Edward towards becoming a vampire verging on the ridiculous, and Edwards emo gushing about suicide pathetic.

While New Moon isn't as cringe-worthy as Twilight, it still doesn't deserve the heavy handed and conceited associations with Romeo and Juilet. And the story does drag at 550+ pages.

1.0 stars Sad attempt at writing..., 2010-03-13;   By: Avid Reader(Arlington, TX)
I will say that a huge section of the middle was just dragging out the much awaited reunion, that was a "tiny" bit frustrating. I did enjoy the emergence of Jake. He is a very likable character. However, the he got very boring when so much time was spent on pointless information about him. You only mention things in a book when they are of importance later on! When the reunion happened the book immediately improved. Yet, it was a bit too late. Overall, too much fluff for no real big punch line.
