Read more »The authors of the national bestseller THE POWER OF NICE once again tackle conventional wisdom with a provocative and counterintuitive book about the importance of sweating the small stuff in our lives and in our careers.
Our smallest actions and gestures often have outsized impact on our biggest goals, say Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval. Did you double-check that presentation one last time, or hold the elevator for a stranger? Going that extra inch – whether with a client, customer, family member, or friend – speaks volumes to others about our talent, personality, and motivations. After all, if we can’t take care of the small details, how can we be counted on to deliver when it really matters?
In today’s challenging times, bigger isn’t always better. In fact, it’s often the baby steps that put us on the path to delivering a true competitive advantage. The real secret to getting ahead in life and in our careers is to refocus our attention on the small details that, if disregarded, can sabotage a multimillion-dollar ad campaign or undermine your most important relationships. Kaplan Thaler and Koval show how to get more of what you want with surprisingly less than you’d imagine.
Written in the same entertaining, story-driven style that made THE POWER OF NICE the go-to book for finishing first, THE POWER OF SMALL demonstrates how all of us can harness the power of small to improve and reinvent our lives. It’s the ultimate guide to shrinking your outlook to broaden your horizons.
Get SMALL and get going!

Loved The Power of Nice and not surprised that I love The Power of Small! It's a great book and really makes you think about what you can/can't do to make a differnce, good or bad!
when small matters,

Every now and then it is a good thing to be reminded of the obvious- and this book does an exceptional job of that. Life isn't made up of Big Things and Big Moments- it's made up of little things, little moments, and just the dignity of day to day life. This is important to remember, particularly in our culture that likes to focus on The Next Big Thing.
I listened to the audio book version of this book- it's a quick listen, just 3 CDs long. It is well read, and the changes in voice as various narrators take over and pass control back and forth is nice, rather than distracting. It is technically well put together.
There are a couple of passages that'll get you to tear up, or, if you're a big softy, a bit more than teared up. The wedding proposal story, in particular, is a doozy.
This isn't an earth shattering book, but that's also in keeping with the message, isn't it? a Big Book about small things would seem rather contrary, no?
This is worth the small investment in time that it calls for, if just to help you remember what life is really about.
Not for every reader,

The book is a series of sentiments and stories supporting the idea that something that's considered "small" (mostly being nice to other people, but also having a great haircut, nice dress, or taking one piece of junk at a time out of you room when you need to clean it up) may result and often results in significant outcomes in personal and professional life. If you are kind of a reader who needs a stream of motivation, that's a great book to get some.
Don't expect the book to be completely logical or present any serious concepts in any systematic way however. It's all about emotional connection and good feelings, not about logic and knowledge. Sentiments and stories continue to the back cover without any left-brain conclusions. So, if instead of motivation to be nice to people you want some substance, this book is not for you.
As a result I cannot really rate this book. It will be great for some people, it will be a complete waste of time for others. I am in the second category, but don't make it stop you if you want emotional connection and support. Check your local library first if in doubt.
Small is BIG - Great book,

The authors have it right. It's the small things, in business and in life. There are so many examples in the book that remind us of the truisms of this. A great read. I'll keep this "small," because they have a BIG point.
Small Actions---Big Results,

By: Larry Underwood(Scottsdale, AZ)
Authors Thaler & Koval have laid out a very well-organized & informative guide to help people navigate through life's big obstacles, by thinking small. The premise may sound overly simplistic, but it packs a nice message; every small action, if done properly will frequently create some exceptional results. It may take a lot of painstaking baby steps to accomplish, but it's certainly worth it.
Although the information provided is nothing that sounds profound, it makes you realize how much more can be accomplished simply by taking some minor steps to gain a slightly better, and ultimately, more successful approach.
Typically, any major event can be dissected to the point of realizing the success or failure of completing the small details is what makes or breaks the deal. Everyone can certainly benefit from this.
